Mahi mahi Fishing Jaco is also known in Spanish as the dorado, or the dolphin fish in English. Found in oceans all over the world, mahi-mahi is not only a prized sport fish, it is highly valued for its mild, sweet tasting, flaky fillets.
One of the most beautiful fish in the ocean, mahi-mahi “light up” when hooked and often put on an aerial display during the fight. They’re neon blue, yellow, and green colors are beautiful and provide great photographs. It’s very exciting when everyone on board is hooked up, when this happens, you’ll see why they call it Mahi Madness!
Remember that La Patrona is Offshore Fishing Specialist and Mahi Mahi is one of the species we target.
Costa Rica Mahi Mahi is one of the fish we target when you go Offshore Fishing on La Patrona, Offshore Fishing with La Patrona offers the best chance to catch Mahi Mahi, Mahi-mahi are very fast-growing fish and don’t live longer than about 5 years. They can grow up to 2 inches a week, so that huge 40-pound fish may only be a year old! A 50-pound fish is probably only 2 years old. Their voracious appetite helps make them a great fish to target; they essentially eat non-stop.
We’d love to take you mahi-mahi fishing, book a trip today!
Dorado Fishing Costa Rica are often caught trolling baits and lures. While blind trolling in deeper water you're always ‘in the game’ when trying to catch a big dolphin. However, oftentimes captains will run around and look for birds which are following schools of fish and bait, and are a good indicator of where to fish. This style of fishing can often put you on the fish faster than just blind trolling. Our captain knows what to look for to find them.
When throwing baits to a school of dolphins, oftentimes dead bait is used, though occasionally fish are picky and it helps to have some live pilchards or the like. La Patrona Fishing always keeps up with where the live bait is to give you the best shot at getting nice fish!
